    Description

Original 18th century early American Suffolk style wrought iron thumb latch handle with unusual diamond cusps, as found and in nice condition.
    Handle measures
    11" high x 3  1/2" wide at the upper cusp.  The handle has a 3  1/2"
grip opening and is 7/8" across the center flat front.  The handle was well executed with a fine beveled edge all around the cusps and handle.  The thumb press is scooped and is pinned in place.  This press is probably not the original or the original that was re-worked to provide a long curved grasp.  This was done a very long time ago as the iron has a lot of age to it and is very well done - possibly to accommodate a thicker door.  The curved thumb lift extends out 3  3/4" out the back - good for about a 2  1/2" door. maximum thickness.   Mount holes in cusps are early.  Nicely executed very early American Suffolk style thumb latch handle, untouched and as found.  Purchase is for single handle only.
