Large Round Antique Iron Door Gate Lock Open Work Engraved Blacksmith Artwork

Description

This is a handmade iron door or gate lock without a key. It was found with what looks like it may be part of a hinge. Don't know if this is original to the lock but the two parts were found in the same old box and it does fit in the slot in the lock and a squared steel pin goes right through a slot in the piece. The hinge also has a springy hook that looks like it was intended for mail or other items to be left at the lock. The mechanism seems complete and still locks or unlocks the hinge by prying and pushing with a flat screwdriver but there is no way of knowing if the proper key would actually fit. We have done nothing to it other than wash off what seemed to be many decades dirt and grime.
The color is a bit off in our monitors but it is a mix of rust, brown and black. For perspective it is almost 6" in diameter and weighs about 13 ounces with the hinge part.
It is sold as an artifact and not as a functioning door lock.
It looks very old but we have no idea where, by whom or when it was made.
